You’ve just finished lunch… You take your plate over to the sink and give it a quick wipe. How comfortable would you be eating off that plate again?

Probably not very… (I hope!)

The cloth might have done a good job getting rid of the largest leftovers…

…But chances are, there are still tiny bits of food stuck to your plate. The cloth probably just moved the dirt around a bit… Without a good rinse and some washing-up liquid, your plate definitely isn’t clean yet.

The comparison is icky, but the truth is… many people do something just like that to their face every night!

You see, at the end of every day, you’ll have dirt, oil and makeup all over your skin.

It all needs to come off before you go to sleep, because if you spend the next 12 hours with all that clinging to your face, you’ll end up with spots, blackheads and clogged pores…

But all too often, people head over to their bathroom sink…

…And clean their skin with a face wipe.

Now, if that’s something you do, I get it!

Face wipes are just so quick and convenient. There’s no messing around with cleansers and creams… And by the end of the day, when you can’t wait to go to sleep already, speed and convenience count for a lot.

The problem is, just like that dishcloth, face wipes don’t clean your face thoroughly.

In fact, they mostly just move the dirt around on your face!

Yes, they’ll get off your lipstick and remove some of the makeup on the surface…

But they can’t break down a lot of the oil, debris and heavier makeup…

…So all that irritating material gets left on your face once you’re done. It’s almost as if you never cleaned your skin at all!

What’s more, lots of face wipes use strong chemicals and preservatives which strip your skin of its natural oil content. This can irritate and dry out your skin.

And if your skin is naturally oily, it will make the problem worse. Your skin will start over-compensating by producing more oil.

I’m sure you can see by now that I’m not the biggest fan of face wipes… To put it mildly.

We see too many people coming to the clinic, believing that they have difficult skin problems…

In reality, a lot of them are just using face wipes and other harsh skincare products that are doing more harm than good…

Simply changing to clinical-grade skincare products can solve problems they were struggling with for years – we recommend Issada Clinical Formula Skincare.

So what’s my advice if you’re using face wipes as part of your regular skincare routine?

If you absolutely must continue for some reason – or use them occasionally when you travel – then make sure you wash your face after you’re finished.

Washing your face will remove some of those harsh ingredients and some of the leftover debris (just like your plate would be quite a bit cleaner if you stuck it under the tap for a few seconds…).

But a much better solution is to stop using face wipes altogether.

Replace them with Issada Daily Gentle Cleanser (or if you are prone to acne consider building Issada Salycilic Purifying Cleanser into your routine too using one of our Issada No Traces reusable makeup remover pads. These will do a much better job removing all the dirt from your skin.

I know it’s less convenient, but the reality is that it takes just 30 seconds instead of 15 seconds – and your skin will be so much the better for it…

…Because unfortunately, the cleansing effect that face wipes give is just an illusion.
