HOME CARE FOR ACNE

Home care is just as, if not more important than clinic treatments, so in your initial consultation, we aim to give you or your teenager the tools you need to manage acne as far as possible at home. Many people think Cystic Acne can only be treated by medications, but we disagree, and in more than 90% of cases, we can give you relief without harmful medications.

Many people assume that acne is only experienced by people with oily skin,  but dry skin can also suffer from acne. In both cases, acne is caused by obstruction of the pore, which traps oil inside and causes infection. In oily skin, the obstruction can be the oil itself, which oxidises and becomes a hard "plug" (which we know as a blackhead), and in dry skin, the obstruction tends to be our own dead skin cells.

People who work in greasy environments (from kitchens to garage workshops) or who touch their faces frequently (like school kids leaning on their hands) also transfer dirt and debris to their faces, which in turn can also exasperate the problem. Similarly, using the wrong type of makeup can make acne worse (avoid talc at all costs), and hair products can transfer onto the skin via hands and pillowcases; many acne sufferers try and hide under their fringes, but this too can cause breakout.
