FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Q. WHAT IS HIGH INTENSITY FOCUSED ULTRASOUND (HIFU)?
HIFU is a safe, non-surgical ultrasound treatment that helps to counteracts the effects of time and gravity on your skin.
This treatment uses your own body’s ability to restore and repair to gently and gradually lift the deeper SMAS layer of tissue and to restore a more youthful appearance.
Q. WHAT DOES HIFU TREAT?
We use HIFU to treat:
•Eye area including brow to create a gentle lift
•Under the chin
• Neck
• Face
• Jawline
• Décolletage
• “Tuck shop” Arms
•Legs
•Stomach
Q. DOES HIFU REPLACE A FACE LIFT?
HIFU treats the same deep foundational layer of tissues which are addressed in cosmetic surgery, but cannot fully duplicate the results of a facelift.
HIFU is still a great alternative for a more natural look, or used to delay the need for surgery and can also be used by clients looking to extend the results of cosmetic surgery.
Q. IS HIFU SIMILAR TO LASER?
Not at all. HIFU uses sound energy with unique properties that allow it to bypass the surface of the skin to treat at a deeper level.
Unlike laser, this means that the surface of the skin is untouched. HIFU then stimulates collagen production at the deep levels, resulting in a clinically significant lift of tissue over the following 2-3 months.
Lasers treat more superficially and can treat surface fine lines and wrinkles as well as pigmentation, veins, redness and rosacea.
Combined, laser and HIFU provide enhanced clinical outcome.
Q. HOW DOES HIFU STIMULATE COLLAGEN PRODUCTION?
The treatment deposits ultrasound waves deep in the tissues at an optimal temperature for collagen regeneration which jump starts a natural process, called neocollagenesis, to produce fresh, new collagen.
HIFU relies on your body’s own collagen-building process for natural, noticeable results.
Q. HOW LONG WILL A HIFU TREATMENT TAKE?
The length of the HIFU treatment will depend on the area treated and your individual treatment plan.
A face and neck procedure typically takes 60-90 minutes, while a décolletage treatment on its own takes approximately 30 minutes.
Q. WHAT IS THE DOWNTIME?
There is no downtime and HIFU treatment can be considered a lunchtime procedure.
Q. WHAT DOES HIFU FEEL LIKE?
Our SQ HIFU treatment is very comfortable and some clients even fall asleep during it.
This is because the energy is targeted deep in tissue and avoids the more sensitive pain receptors in the surface of the skin.
Q. HOW MANY HIFU TREATMENTS WILL I NEED?
Most clients only need one treatment but of course this does depend on the condition of your skin, your age and factors such as whether or not you smoke and your general health.
Your skin will continue to age regardless of any treatment but an annual maintenance treatment will assist with this.
Q. AM I A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR HIFU?
A good HIFU candidate has mild to moderate skin laxity where the skin begins to feel and look less firm such as a sagging eyebrow line, loose skin on the neck, sagging under the chin, and lines or wrinkles on the chest.
To find out if you are a suitable candidate then book a complimentary consultation at the Ultimate Skin & Body Clinic.
Q. WHAT IS THE COST OF HIFU?
We price by area and offer value packages if more than one area is treated
Q. IS HIFU SAFE?
Yes - the HIFU procedure has been used safely in over 250,000 treatments worldwide while ultrasound energy itself has been used safely in the medical field for more than 50 years.
Q. HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO SEE RESULTS?
Immediately after your HIFU Treatment, you may see some initial lifting, but the ultimate results will occur over a 2-3 month period which is the time it takes for your body to naturally regenerates collagen.
Because the results are gradual we take before and after photos to allow you to see the changes.
Q. HOW LONG DOES THE RESULT LAST?
HIFU stimulates your own collagen production, so the result is affected by your own health. The treatment produces new collagen on the inside, but your natural ageing process will dictate how long that translates into visible results on the outside.
