Collagen Induction: The Key to Effective Skin Rejuvenation
Collagen induction is central to anti-ageing and skin rejuvenations quite simply because loss of collagen is a key cause of lines, wrinkles, heavy jowls and facial ageing.
Believe it or not, our body's ability to generate new collagen starts to slow down while we are in our late 20's and by the time we are at the other side of menopause we are producing very little.
Collagen inducing treatments should be a staple part of your beauty regimen. While facials, and massage have a feel good and even psychological benefit they are unable to contribute as significantly to collagen renewal as some of our more advanced treatments.
So, in a world where there is so much choice available, how do you know what Collagen Stimulants really work?
In this blog I take a deep dive into the various treatments we offer and give you an indicator of efficacy and price.

SO WHAT IS COLLAGEN INDUCTION / COLLAGEN STIMMULATION?
Collagen is a vital protein responsible for maintaining skin elasticity and firmness, so these treatments offer results in improving the overall appearance and health of the skin.
Her at Ultimate Skin and Body we offer six core different collagen induction treatments.
Our range is wide because each has its place depending on:
- The degree of skin laxity or collagen lost in each client
- The speed of results required by the client
- The client's budget.
- The client's suitability for each type of treatment, which may will include a review of their age, health, lifestyle and medications.
- Any additional concerns of the client
1. FRAXEL LASER REJUVENATION
Fraxel is a laser treatment that uses fractional laser technology to target specific areas of the skin. By creating controlled micro-injuries, it stimulates collagen production and triggers the body’s natural healing process. Fraxel is highly effective in treating various skin concerns, including wrinkles, acne scars, and age spots.
IDEAL FOR:
Scarring, Fine Lines & Wrinkles, Uneven Skin Texture, Melasma & Pigmentation
BUDGET: One of our more costly treatments simply because of its ability to treat multiple issues simultaneously. Expect to need 3 treatments as a minimum with severe ice-pick scarring requiring up to 5
EFFICACY: We call this the "big Guns" Treatment for a reason! It is a highly efficient treatment but requires down time of 3-4 days and you may experience peeling for up to a week.
General Collagen induction is just one part of this treatment as it has the ability to reduce scarring, treat pigmentation (even Melasma) and safely resurface the skin at the same time.
2. HIFU (High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound)
HIFU is a non-invasive treatment that delivers focused ultrasound energy to the deeper layers of the skin. This energy stimulates collagen production, resulting in skin tightening and lifting effects. HIFU is particularly effective in reducing sagging skin and improving facial contours but works at the deeper level of the skin - at the SMAS layer.
It is highly effective in plumping and toning the deeper levels of the skin but is more beneficial when other treatment modalities are combined wi address other layers of the skin too.
IDEAL FOR:
Lax Skin
BUDGET:
Affordable - this is a 1 x year treatment.
EFFICACY:
Excellent treatment but should be combined with other modalities to other skin layers. Treats only lax skin and has none of the additional benefits of Fraxel or Evo Neogen High Energy Treatments.
3. FRACTIONAL RADIO FREQUENCY
Fractional Radio-Frequency (RF) is a minimally invasive treatment that combines radiofrequency energy with micro-needling. It delivers heat energy deep into the skin, stimulating collagen production and promoting skin tightening. Fractional RF is highly effective in treating wrinkles, acne scars, and improving overall skin texture.
IDEAL FOR:
Fine lines and wrinkles, acne scarring and general collagen stimulation superficial layers of the skin. Combine with HIFU for greater efficacy.
BUDGET:
General skin maintenance: 3 treatments 2-4 weeks apart
Stretch Marks & Scars: 3-6 treatments 2-4 weeks apart
Cystic Acne: 3-6 Treatments 2-4 weeks apart
EFFICACY:
Excellent treatment but should be combined with other modalities to other skin layers. Treats fine lines and wrinkles, stretch marks and scars effectively.
Can also be utilised in the treatment of cystic acne.
4. MICRO-NEEDLING
Micro-needling, also known as collagen induction therapy, involves creating controlled micro-injuries in the skin using tiny needles. This process stimulates collagen and elastin production, resulting in improved skin texture, reduced scarring, and a more youthful appearance. Micro-needling is effective for various skin concerns, including fine lines, acne scars, and minimal hyperpigmentation.
IDEAL FOR:
Fine lines and wrinkles, mild scarring
Improving penetration of skin products
BUDGET:
Inexpensive treatment - requires 6-12 sessions.
EFFICACY:
Excellent treatment but should be combined with other modalities to other skin layers.
5. HOME USE DERMAL ROLLERS
Home use dermal rollers are handheld devices equipped with tiny needles that can be used for micro-needling at home. While they can stimulate collagen production to some extent, their effectiveness is limited compared to professional treatments but tjeir best use is in your daily skincare routine where you can imporve your product penetration by up to 400%
It is crucial to follow proper usage instructions and consult with a skincare professional for optimal results.
