AVOIDING BRUISING AND SWELLING

FROM INJECTABLE TREATMENTS

BRUISING

We aim to avoid bruising as far as possible, but some bruising is inevitable with all treatments involving skin penetration. These include Cosmetic Enhancement Treatments, Micro-Needling and Fractional RF, but the extent to which you may bruise will vary from person to person and is affected by several biological and physiological factors.

Some supplements, medications and herbal supplements will increase the likelihood of bruising, as will alcohol so being aware of these things will help you minimise the risk.

We also recommended that you avoid the following for three days before treatment.

1. Any non-essential blood-thinning drugs such as aspirin and ibuprofen.
(Never adjust your dosage of prescription blood thinning medication without advice from your doctor).

2. Vitamin A, Vitamin B, Vitamin C, Ginkgo, fish oils and evening primrose all of which either thin the blood or increase blood circulation.

If you have a large ball-shaped bruise, please contact the clinic as soon as possible. This is an extremely rare occurrence but if in doubt please call. Our staff will ask for a photo also.

SWELLING

The extent to which you experience swelling after injectable treatments will also vary from person to person and vary according to the treatment area.

Always avoid touching the area unnecessarily for the first couple of days unless advised to massage the area by your practitioner.

If advised by your treating practitioner, you may apply ice or cold compresses for intermittent short periods for the first day or two to help reduce swelling.

If possible, sleep raised and on your back for the first couple of nights which will also help to minimise swelling.

Flying may also increase the severity of swelling especially in the eye area where the skin is thinner and should be avoided for 5-7 days.

If you are at all concerned about your bruising or swelling, please contact the clinic on 07 5509 0081. We will easily be able to assess you initially in person, by video, FaceTime or via a photo and would rather you call for reassurance than worry at home.
